ACL INJURY PREVENTION / RETURN TO PLAY

ACL injuries, and other knee injuries, are unfortunately common in the sports world. A number of these injuries can be prevented, and recovered from, with full body strengthening, corrective exercises, and safe movement techniques. Dr. Chelsea has protocols for preventing knee injuries and for rehabilitating you to be able to return to your sport quickly.

CHRONIC PAIN MANAGEMENT

Chronic pain is defined as any pain that lasts 6 months or longer. That includes pain in a specific location or generalized pain throughout the body. Dr. Chelsea is an expert in treating chronic pain and has spent her career furthering her knowledge of how it affects the body and how to treat it more efficiently. She focuses on retraining your body in order to treat the pain while giving you tools to independently manage your pain now and in the future. The goal is for you to not have to rely on healthcare providers to help you for the rest of your life.

Complex case management

Many medical conditions have a long list of symptoms that put stress on the body. Physical therapy may not treat the medical diagnosis, but it can help manage symptoms and improve overall function through stress management, activity adaptation, exercise, and manual therapy. Dr. Chelsea excels at understanding your case and using a variety of approaches and tools to improve your quality of life when battling any health condition.

Concussion care

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury, which can occur with or without a direct blow to the head and/or body, and may or may not result in loss of consciousness. As a concussion specialist, Dr. Chelsea will help you to return to all activities safely, including gradually returning to playing sports.

Cupping

Cupping is used to reduce pain and inflammation, improve blood flow, and improve tissue mobility. The suction from the cup creates more space in the underlying tissues, which helps speed up the healing process.

dry needling

Dry needling is often confused with acupuncture but the practice is actually very different and fits the model of scientifically-based physical therapy. Dr. Chelsea is trained and certified in dry needling and uses it to treat pain and movement impairments.

Fall prevention

Falls happen, no matter your age or activity level. Physical therapy can decrease your chances of falling or help you recover from a fall by doing exercises to improve your strength, balance, and confidence with movement.

Home Exercise Programs

Everybody is different and unique; therefore, everybody’s rehab needs to be personalized for them. Dr. Chelsea develops an individualized plan of care for you and gives you exercises to complete at home to optimize your recovery time.

Injury prevention screenings

We offer screenings that look at your movement patterns. These screenings can be used to identify abnormal movements that could potentially lead to problems or injuries. The screenings can be specific to a body part, a particular activity, or how you move in general.

Manual therapy

Manual therapy is a specialized physical therapy method that utilizes specific, hands-on techniques to therapeutically assess and treat your soft tissue and joints. It is used to reduce pain and inflammation, improve tissue and joint mobility, increase blood flow, and enhance your overall ability to move. Dr. Chelsea includes manual therapy in every patient’s treatment plan.

Myofascial release

Myofascia is connective tissue that makes up the tough membranes that wrap, connect and support your muscles. This tissue can become tight, which can cause pain and restricted movement. Myofascial release is a manual therapy technique used to decrease tissue tension and increase blood flow and mobility to the affected tissues.

Pain management

Pain is the number one reason people seek physical therapy. No matter what caused your pain or how long you have had it, Dr. Chelsea can help manage it using a variety of tools and techniques to more effectively treat the cause of your pain.

Pelvic pain and incontinence management

Everyone has a pelvic floor that is made up of muscles that support the urinary and reproductive tracts. This group of muscles controls your bladder and bowels. At any age, these muscles can sometimes carry too much tension, become weakened, or don’t activate properly, which can lead to pain, incontinence, and/or difficulty with intercourse. Physical therapy for the pelvic floor includes a variety of treatments that can help relieve symptoms like pain, discomfort, and disruptions to your quality of life. Dr. Chelsea strongly encourages all pregnant women to participate in pelvic floor physical therapy pre- and postnatally to prepare for and fully recover from childbirth.

Post-operative recovery

Dr. Chelsea believes all orthopedic surgeries (operations on the hip, knee, shoulder, wrist, hand, neck, foot, ankle, and spine) benefit from physical therapy both before and after the procedure. Other surgeries, such as organ transplants, reproductive, and brain, will also benefit from postoperative physical therapy.

Spine services

Spine services addresses issues of the spine, which includes the head and face, ribs, and pelvis as they are directly attached to the spine. Physical therapy for your back pain, neck pain, headaches, TMJ, and nerve conditions works to help you feel better without addictive medications.

sports medicine

Sports physical therapy prepares athletes to participate in sports and return to sports after an injury by reducing risk of injury/re-injury and improving overall performance. Dr. Chelsea ensures our athletes get a whole body program in order to maximize athletic ability.

Vestibular / balance rehab

People with vestibular disorders often experience problems with vertigo, dizziness, visual disturbance, and/or imbalance. Vestibular physical therapy is mostly exercise based to minimize the symptoms and maximally improve balance.
